Former health minister Dr Oly Ilunga Kalenga was indicted on Tuesday on charges of allegedmisusing public funds to fight the Ebola epidemic.
Accused of his will to leave the country despite the ban on justice, Dr. Oly Ilunga was interviewed and taken into custody in Kinshasa. He was charged with embezzlement of public funds for the Ebola response. According to Guy Kabeya, the latter’s lawyer, “the investigation of the merits of the case continues.” In his entourage, it is expected that the evidence can be brandished to exonerate the former minister. “The accounting documents in the file attest that this sum was used exclusively for the fight against Ebola virus disease,” his lawyers said on Young Africa.

In deep disagreement with President Felix Tshisekedi, Ilunga had filed his resignation deploring two decision-making poles. He protested against the administration of a second Ebola vaccine “by actors who have demonstrated a clear lack of ethics.” This doctor intends to wash his honour with the utmost energy.
